LABELMATE offers two types of Core holding mechanisms for its Rewinders and Unwinders. The basic type has multiple Fins, or Vanes, that extend radially from the Rewind/Unwind Shaft. The cardboard label Core slides over the Fins and is held by a friction fit between the Fins and the inside of the Core.

Convenience and Speed with "Quick-Chucks"
LABELMATE developed its line of “Quick-Chucks” to overcome the disadvantages of Fin-Style Core Holders. The “Quick-Chuck” holds your Core easily and surely by expanding inside the Core. A twist of the Lock Knob either grips or releases the Core.

You can place a full roll of labels effortlessly over the “Quick-Chuck” and lock it in place for unwinding. Or, a full roll of rewound labels can be quickly and easily removed from the Rewinder with no danger of undesirable telescoping. In every case, you save time and possible frustration.

“Quick-Chucks” are so easy to work with that we have made them standard on the Rewinders in LABELMATE Slitting Station Packages. You just slide your multiple rewind cores on your “Quick-Chuck,” adjust their position, and then lock all the cores in place simultaneously. When your slitting job is finished, a turn of the “Quick-Chuck” Lock Knob frees the label rolls for effortless removal.

Disadvantages of Fin-Style Core Holders
For some applications, the Fin-Style Core Holder is fine, but there are several disadvantages. Because the Fin-Style Core Holder works by friction on the inside of the label Core, mounting or removing a roll of labels may require significant force. This force, if not applied very carefully, may result in undesirable “telescoping” of the labels on the Core. In some cases the label roll may fall off the Core altogether and spill onto the floor. When this happens, it is not a happy situation.

Secondly, a full roll of labels has considerable weight. Managing this weight when mounting or removing a label roll over the Core Fins can be challenging. The force required to push the label roll over the Fins can also cause the Unwinder or Rewinder to move out of position.

Cardboard label cores are also notorious for their variation in inside diameter. One label Core may fit the Core Fins just fine, while the next one may be either too loose or too tight. There is a means to adjust the Fins for tightness, but it takes several minutes and can be inconvenient and annoying when you’re trying to finish a production job.

The only real advantage of Fin-Style Core Holders is their lower cost. They are OK for casual rewind or unwind jobs, but for a production environment where you want maximum convenience and efficiency, choose a LABELMATE “Quick-Chuck.”
